What To Expect
Therapy can help you with your emotional and relationship problems. It might not be easy to talk about yourself with someone you have just met. You may be worried about what I am thinking, but my job is to help you resolve any upsetting, or embarrassing, thoughts and feelings. This will be done in a non-judgemental way. You will be provided with a safe place to talk openly about how you are feeling and help you understand what might be causing your difficulties.
The Consultation
Before starting therapy, you will be asked to come for an initial consultation. A consultation is a great way to get a feel for how I work and find out how I will be able to help you. As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist I have helped my clients with a wide variety of problems. I promise to be honest with you and if you feel that I might not be the right person for you, I will try to suggest another therapist who could help
The consultation will be a chance to explore the issues that you are dealing with and how it is affecting you and your relationships. I will ask you some basic questions, but this is done begin to develop a picture of your life. Most of the time will be spent with you talking about what you feel is important to talk about. I am interested in what is on your mind and how you are feeling. It is understandable if you don’t know what to say, I will try and help you if you feel uncomfortable. At the end of the consultation you will have a greater idea of how I work, what is expected of you and what you can expect from me.
Weekly Therapy
Following the consultation, should you have chosen to continue working with me, therapy will be held at the same time each week. Each session will give you the opportunity to talk freely about yourself. As we get to know each other, I will be able to notice things about your thoughts and feelings that you may not be able to notice. Sometimes we have behaviours that go unnoticed that have a negative effect on our lives. By drawing attention to certain things that you cannot see, I will be able to help you understand yourself more, changing the way you respond to difficult situations.
Therapy can bring up difficult feelings and emotions and I am trained to listen to how you are feeling and help you resolve them. Therapy is also a wonderful place to explore you dreams and develop a greater sense of yourself and who you want to become. It may be hard at times, but it also a place to play with ideas, develop your creativity and improve your relationships.
